In the Central Utah Water Conservancy District, there’s so much we do as a matter of business, such as supplying our region with the best-tasting water we can and finding new sources so we can keep it up.
But we always look for ways to take it a step further, to better educate on the importance of conserving water, to prepare young scientists to fill our shoes a few years down the road, and of course, to have a little fun as we enjoy our precious resources.
This past year, we’ve really connected. We locked step with our fellow Utahns and ended the year on a high note, with the promise of more great things to come!
Here are just a few reasons to celebrate 2017:
• Our Pumpkin Carving contest, followed the next day by our Pumpkin Walk at Central Utah Gardens, is always one of our most popular events. This year, we came within a hair’s breadth of setting new records! OK, the Puking Pumpkins fizzled… literally… but there was plenty more that went right, beginning with beautiful weather. Congratulations to all the winners, including our garden staff and people’s choices!
• The fall edition of our Picture This! photo competition has come to a close and that means you can soon stop by and pick up your own 2018 CUWCD calendar! Right now, we are pulling the winning photos and a few of our other favorites together, creating a year-long celebration of our district’s amazing landscape. You made it possible and we can’t thank you enough for sharing your talents.
• We’re also busy building on the outreach we’ve started with our district’s schools. The enthusiasm of our young American Fork scientists was contagious and we’ve spread the excitement to even more classes in the past year. Watch soon for still another way to join our quest as a Citizen Scientist. Our future is in good hands!
• Among the things to watch in 2018: we’re beginning to drill new groundwater wells as part of our Wells@Vineyard project, tapping into the aquifer that won us best-tasting water honors in 2016. Head to our website thewellsatvineyard.com for more information.
