National Refreshment Day is observed every year on the fourth Thursday in July, which is just around the corner at the time we’re writing this blog. For many of us in North America, this is the hottest part of the summer, so it makes sense that this fun holiday would happen this time of year.
Leonardo da Vinci once said that “water is the driving force of all nature” and of course, we couldn’t agree more! There are a lot of beverage options out there, although some do a better job than others when it comes to refreshing you on a hot day. If you ask us, your first choice should still be water. It’s healthy, it’s abundant, and it’s what your body craves.
However, we are aware that it can get boring, especially if you’re drinking a lot of it to stay refreshed on a hot summer day. Here are some of our favorite tips to make water a little more appealing!
Add Your Favorite Produce – Of course, a wedge of lemon or lime is great, but even that can get boring after a while. Branch out and try new fruits and even vegetables! Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cucumber, and even frozen grapes are so much fun to add to your water.
Add Some Fresh Herbs – You’ve probably seen people add a few mint leaves to their water before, but there are lots of fresh herbs that are great in water. For example, lavender, rosemary, lemon verbena, and basil are all delicious ways to add some flair to your daily allotment of water. Stick with fresh herbs though… the dried herbs in your spice rack aren’t going to work as well.
Add Bubbles – Sparkling water is extremely popular these days, and it does make drinking eight glasses every day a little more fun. You don’t have to stock up on cans at the grocery store, though. There are inexpensive devices that add carbonation to water easily and quickly. If you love bubbly water, it might be smart to invest in one!
